Tomatoes Are the Main Course (for a Day!)
It all began with a lunchroom conversation back in the mid-1990s. What is the best way to eat a tomato? And, in that moment, a tradition was born.
Godfrey continued its decades-long observation of “Mater Day” with a recent celebration of all things red, juicy and delicious. As part of that event, we made a donation to a worthy charity, the Power Packs Project, which helps low-income parents provide nutritious meals for their children when school breakfast and lunch programs are not available. Godfrey gave a donation for each person wearing red.
Godfrey’s tomato enthusiasts brought in their favorite toppings, from chips and mayo (only Duke’s, of course) to bacon, mozzarella and white bread. And, lest we forget, the fruit/vegetable of the day. In case you are wondering, tomatoes live in both families, according to Wikipedia:“While tomatoes are botanically berry-type fruits, they are considered culinary vegetables, being ingredients of savory meals.”
